Dr. Fredrick Buechel -Seton Hall Prep /University
Fred Buechel wrestled for Seton Hall Prep in the early 1960's winning a State Championship as a Senior while posting a 23-1 record. He would then move to Seton Hall University where he would post a 61-5-2 record while winning three Metropolitan titles as well as five NJ State AAU Freestyle and one Greco-Roman State Championship. Fred would place 7th in the NCAA's. For years Doctor Buechel would work the State Tournament he won as a High School wrestler as the tournament doctor. Dr. Buechel is a high-profiled orthopaedic surgeon, researcher and developer in the field of total joint replacement since 1974. He has gained international recognition for his developments and has collaboratively presented and published numerous scientific articles in the field of total joint reconstructive surgery. This includes more than 150 research articles and more than 100 United States and international patents in the area of joint replacement implant and instrument design. Dr. Buechel is recognized for his pioneering work in the area of mobile-bearings, which includes the development of the world’s leading mobile-bearing knee, the New Jersey LCS ® Total Knee System. He is also very proud of the outstanding clinical results of the Buechel-Pappas Total Knee, which is the latest improvement over the LSC Knee. The B-P™ Total Hip System and the B-P™ Total Shoulder System also represent state-of-the-art interchangeable and upgradeable ceramic-coated implants for patients with high-level activities. For more than 25 years, these implant designs and surgical technique improvements have been in collaboration with Michael J. Pappas, Ph.D., an astute professor of mechanical engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Dr. Buechel is board certified and is a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, as well as, the Chief of Total Joint Reconstructive and Arthritis Surgery Services at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – New Jersey Medical School in Newark. He is also an Attending Surgeon at Saint Barnbas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. Dr. Buechel is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Past-President of the Orthopaedic Surgery and Trauma Society.
John Goles-Washington/Warren Hills
John Goles began his coaching career as a football coach at Washington High School in 1944 and promptly coached two undefeated seasons. His real gift to Washington/Warren Hills was in the area of wrestling which he coached from 1944 to 1979 where he recorded a career record of 276-154-8 over a 36 year coaching career. On four occasions his teams would earn State Championships and were runner-ups six times. He coached 46 wrestlers to State Championships, 31 state runner-ups,10 third placewinners and four Outstanding Wrestlers. Goles coached seven wrestlers to State Championships including Bill Oberly who would win a NCAA title at Penn State. Inspite of never wrestling as a competitor John Goles was selected the Top 100 Sports People in the Lehigh Valley by the Easton Times Express and the Wrestling Coach of the 1950's by the Star Ledger All- Century Team.
