Richard Mirshak -Roxbury & NJWOA

Rich Mirshack,a respected educator,coach and official made his indelible mark on NJ wrestling in a short period of time. He entered wrestling as the head coach of Roxbury HS, having never personally wrestled, he learned the sport at clinics. His Roxbury teams earned a record of 75-29-2 with 23 District Champions,6 Region Champions and two wrestlers would reach the ultimate goal, A NJ State Championship. A moving force in the 1960's in summer clinics and tournaments, he set up the Morris County Fair Tournament, one of the 1st summer tournaments in the state. Rich would become one of the top officials in NJ running official's clinics and served as the President of the NJ Wrestling Officials Assn. as well as the NJ Wrestling Committee and the NJSIAA Executive Committee. A reknown school administrator,first as Principal at Roxbury,then at West Morris as Superintendent of Schools and finally as Principal/Superintendent of Walkill Valley Regional HS. Rich's love for wrestling was shown in the Walkill's gym which is the site for the Region 1 tournament and is named in his honor. As an official he was respected by every official in NJ and upon his untimely death the NJWOA established the Richard C.Mirshak Award of Excellence
