George Reid
A member of the famed Somerville HS teams of 1956-1960, George was team captain in 1960 when he capped off his career by winning the State 148lb Championship. The next stop for George would be Purdue University where he would letter three years,captain the team twice and place 3rd in the Big Ten which qualified him for the NCAA's. Following college he would again become a Captain ,this time as a US Marine serving his country in Vietnam from 1967-69. After the Marine he would start his coaching career at Hillsbourgh HS before moving to Purdue as an Assistant Coach in 1972. In 1974 Coach Reid would get the Head Coaching position at the University of Georgia where he would coach until Title 9 would cause Georgia and the SE Conference to drop wrestling. George returned to NJ where for the next twenty years he would coach Bridgewater-Raritan to 122 victories including two Somerset County Championship and over 30 individual county champions. He would produce 30 District,9 region and one State Champion, who would go on to earn All-American honors at the University of Virginia. Coach Reid also served as the NJ Freestyle coach from 1980-85. He and his wife Sally retired to Hagerstown and spend time with their children Brian and Jeniffer Lamb plus their 11 grandchildren.
