T.Ralph 'Pug' Williams

Pug Williams is considered Mr.Wrestling in New Jersey. He was the first wrestling coach at Roselle Park High School. His coaching record of 146-43-4 reveals only one losing season in his 23 year career. His teams capture the State Championship on three occcasions while crowning 50 State Champions. After retiring he served as the State Tournament Director for twelve years. He started the Williams Wrestling Clinic,the first in NJ,and directed the Middle Atlantic States Wrestling Clinic in PA for 12 years. As a pioneer of NJ wrestling he was the 1st person to recieve the Harry E.Lake Award and the NJSIAA Award of Honor. A charter member of the NJ wrestling Coaches and Officials Association,he served as it's President. In 1972 he was inducted into the Amateur Wrestling Hall of Fame. In his honor the award for the #1 team in NJ was named for him,and later became the Williams/Finizio Award when his former wrestler and Hall of Famer Ernie Finizio retired.

Walt Shallcross- Union

Walt Shallcross earned nine varsity letters in Football,Wrestling,and Baseball at Roselle Park High School. He placed 2nd in the state in wrestling and was All-State in Football and Baseball. At Rutgers he lettered in three sports and captained both the Football and Wrestling Teams. After Rutgers Walt took over the reins of Union High School where he coached for the next 17 years compiling a 155-19 record. During his career he coached 20 State Champions which included thre Outstanding Wrestlers. Moving up to the position of Director of Athletics he directed region Tournaments and served as chief clerk at the State Tournament. All this while serving as one of the more sought after clinicians in the sport.
