Major General Dr.Arthur Sachsel
General Sachsel was born in New York City on Nov.11th 1926 and graduated from Jonathan Dayton Regional HS in Springfield,NJ in 1944.A member of the wrestling team he won the State Championship at 113lbs as a senior.He attended University of Michigan and lettered at 121lbs. A pre-dental student at Michigan he enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine recieving his Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 1950. From 1950 to 1953 he was a general dental officer serving in the U.S. Air Force in Washington D.C and Furstenfeldbrick Air Base in Germany. In 1953 he started a private practice in Garwood where he stayed till July 1955 when he returned to the Air Force as the Cheif of Restoration Dentistry At Bolling Air Base before transferring to Spain as the base Dental Surgeon at Zaragoza Air Base Spain. In 1962 he earned a degree for MSC Periodontics at Ohio State. His life in the Air Force would include work both in the USA and abroad until he retired in 1987 with the rankof Major General. His military honors include The Distinguished Service Medal,the Leagion of Merit,the Meritorious Service Medal,the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. General Sachsel is married to the former Leticia Mariano and they reside in Riverside,California.They have a son Jeffery and two grandchildren.
Joe Cervino - Paramus
A 1967 graduate of New Milford HS where he captained both the Baseball and Wrestling teams,Joe moved on to Springfield College where he wrestled for two years and Captained the Baseball team as a senior setting a record for stolen bases in the country. A 1st team All-New England pick, Joe was drafted by the St.Louis Cardinals who he would play minor league ball until it was interupted by the military. In 1971 Joe would land a Physical Education job at Paramus where he would become an Assistant Coach under Bill Savage for eight years. In 1981 Cervino would succeed Savage and remain Head Coach for the next 23 years compiling a 311-74-2 record. His teams won 9 District, 12 NNJIL,3 county and 5 Sectional Championships. His wrestlers would win 75 District,10 Region,13 County and 10 State Medals including State Champion,Neil Hanley in 1983. Joe has been selected 6 time District,5 time County,and 3 time Region Coach of the Year. In 2003 Joe won the Caan Award as State Coach of the Year. Joe is also a member of his High School Hall of Fame as well as the Met Baseball and NJ Coaches Halls of Fame. A member of the NJWOA for 10 years Joe was equally successful in coaching Baseball where he won 511 games, 7 league and two section Titles. Joe is the son of former wrestling official and Teaneck Athletic Director, Joe Cervino and has been married to his wonderful wife,Pat for over 30 years. Sons Joey and Danny were both wrestlers for there Dad and daughter Kristy was the team's scorekeeper.
